Join us for a special Pro-Animal visit to The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg! It's important that we give TWAS an accurate headcount for this visit, so please be sure to RSVP if you plan to attend, and we'll figure out carpools closer in! The Wild Animal Sanctuary is home to over 950 lions, tigers, bears, wolves, and other animals rescued from illegal or abusive situations. This includes almost 150 animals rescued from the roadside zoos featured in the 2020 Netflix docuseries The Tiger King. They are now the largest carnivore sanctuary in the world. Since most large animals are not afraid of attacks from above, The Wild Animal Sanctuary has constructed a 1.5-mile raised walkway in order to reduce stress to the animals. This means about 3 miles of walking round-trip, so be prepared to get some steps in! There are water refill stations along the path, so be sure to bring a water bottle so you can refill. I'll also bring a picnic dinner for us to share. There is also a cafe on site, and their menu has some seemingly veggie-friendly options, but none were clearly marked as vegan. The sanctuary is huge and the animals have lots of room to roam and hide, so bring binoculars if you have a pair. Visits to The Wild Animal Sanctuary are normally $50/person, but the sanctuary has very kindly offered Pro-Animal Future a free visit.
