This workshop will provide an introduction to Nonviolent Communication (NVC) for animal advocates. NVC is a communication modality based on principles of Nonviolence, a philosophy that seeks to find a third way beyond the binary of pacifism and violence. NVC seeks solutions to conflicts that, through awareness of the needs of all parties, lead towards healing and reconciliation for all. This highly interactive workshop will cover the basic vocabulary of NVC- observations, feelings, needs, and requests, and include exercises to begin (or continue) your practice. We’ll discuss using NVC across power differentials and in some common conflicts internal to the animal rights movement.
